Tejon St Colorado Springs
There’s more to the Colorado Springs downtown scene than just night clubs and multiple Starbucks. Downtown is filled with sculptures and artwork which are refreshed every year as part of the Art on the Streets program.
AOTS brings artists from all over the world, competing to have their artwork displayed for the entire year throughout the 40-square-blocks. Believe it or not, we’re now approaching the 12th year of this creative program, presented by US Bank, and sponsored by G.E. Johnson and Nor’wood Development Group.
Although the call for entries has ended (first couple weeks in March is the deadline if you want to try for next year), the launch ceremony and announcement of winning entries takes place on June 18th. This is a great event and is worth attending to connect with the artists and be the first to view the top picks of juror Jan Schall.
As a downtown businessman and local artist myself, I love seeing the variety and unique pieces created for this competition. Both tourist and locals stop to check out the sculptures, and often snap a photo as a fun reminder of a day in downtown Colorado Springs.
Anyone can enjoy and appreciate this artwork throughout the year as you stroll around downtown. In fact, check out the AOTS website to print your Walking Tour Guide so you don’t miss a single piece.
